Renovation (week 4)

We're just about finishing up on week 4 of the renovation. In the last two weeks there hasn't been as much of visible progress as the first two weeks (how could there be!), but I'm still pretty happy with the speed of everything. Since I last wrote it they've framed in the wall between the kitchen and mudroom and installed the track for the pocket door. They've installed all of the new plumbing. They've made an opening in the living room wall for the new front door. They've framed in the new bedroom window (which is massive!). They've knocked out the small wall between the hallway and the back bedroom which has made that room feel so much bigger. They've framed in the linen closet. They've knocked down our fence.

The house looks amazing. The changes that we've made have really opened up everything and made the space a lot more livable. These are not the kind of changes that are going to show up on Zilllow but I guess I don't really care. I already loved that house, and now I'm going to love it even more.

Today we had the "electrical walkthrough" with the architect, general contractor, and electrician. It was a long meeting, but it felt like me made a lot of progress. We went through each of the rooms and decided exactly where the lights, swiches, electrical outlets, speaker outlets, and network drops were going to be. I was exicted that the electrician knew what I was talking about when I talked about RJ-45 and Cat-6. He was somewhat surprised when I said that I didn't want any RJ-11 jacks (regular old telephone jacks) or coaxal cable (for cable TV). I just don't need those things anymore, everything has moved to IP over ethernet.
